Register for the DFW upcoming anime conventions!
So basically now is the time to register for the best anime conventions in Dallas, A-Kon 25 and Anime Fest 2014 and look out for the new ANT convention in Fort Worth in November.
In case you are new to the whole anime convention scene, the biggest con to look out for is A-Kon, this year being held at the Hilton Anatole for the second year. Last year over 27,000 people attended and yes pretty much the entire hotel was booked but there are many surrounding overflow hotels.
A-Kon this year is June 6-8 and the last day to pre-register is April 27th. Pre-reg price is at $55 for a weekend pass and I'm telling you it only gets more expensive if you decide to not pre-reg and just get the ticket at the door. Currently at the door ticket prices have not been posted but we can guess its not going to be cheap. Pre-reg is going to be your best price option at A-Kon, and if you already pre-registered months ago, then good for you, you got the best deals!
Thats right, the earlier you do it, the better the price!
Register ASAP at http://www.A-Kon.com
Anime Fest this year will once again be held at The Sheraton in Downtown Dallas. This year however the dates have changed from labor day weekend to August 15-18, this sucks for us that liked having the labor day con, because now I actually have to use up vacation time at work. ugh.
Anyway Anime Fest is a smaller con, last year about 5,000 people attended.
In my opinion it is very well put together and a perfect con to get you into the swing of "big" cons.
Tickets right now are at $35 for a Friday-Monday pass and they will go up after the end of April. Pre-register at http://animefest.org
New for the second year is Anime North Texas.
I was unable to check this out last year due to a wedding I attended but I actually might go about and check this one out to see how the beginning cons are. Anime North Texas a.k.a ANT will have its second year November 14-16 at the Radisson in Fort Worth. Tickets right now start at $25 and go up depending if you want a VIP pass etc. more information is at http://animenorthtexas.com

Leo Con III in Commerce TX
Ok So I attended Leo Con on March 29th at A& M Commerce, It was pretty cool, although since right now they are still considered a small con, it was not as awesome as I'd like to rave about, but still very cool indeed for a small con,
The main thing I really wanted to go to was Nathan Arbuckle's presentation, he is a special effects guru in the film industry, has worked on major motion pictures such as Alvin and the Chipmunks and Ghost Rider, 8MM, and Harry Potter. He was very informative indeed. I also wanted to attend the voice over panel but it got canceled.
I did attend the Costume contest and won 2nd place with my Chobits cosplay! I didnt win anything, which I think they should work on that because whats the motivation to dress up if you aren't going to win anything as a prize? am I right?
The dance was really fun, I think the best dances are the con dances, you get really nerdy music like Disney song medleys, video game music, and music to jam out to like the Pokemon song.
All in all it was good, especially since it was the first time it was in the Student Center instead of the Hall of Languages. Look forward to next year!

Mini A-Kon VII 2014
Mini A-Kon VII was upgraded this year to two locations, starting at the Denton Civic Center in Denton TX, and adding a second location at the Emily Fowler Library within a few feet of the Civic Center on the same block. There was a nice park area where many con-goers were able to take splendid pictures and enjoy picnics and shows outside.
All in all it was a definite success!
However, all in all it was a success but there were a few things I noticed that could have gone smoother. Mostly I think the layout of the civic center had a lot to do with it, it being a completely round open area it makes it hard to block the area for where what is supposed to go where. But here are my suggestions
* First of all the main panel area at the civic center was in a completely open area with very limited seating. It just did not have very good panel room atmosphere being out in the open like it was, with so much commotion going on around it. But if that was going to have to be the case, then a small stage where the panelists could be elevated would have been more helpful.
* The video game area did not look promising, There hardly seemed to be any available consoles or games and the way it was arranged did not look very welcoming, it looked more like a garage sale of tvs than a gaming area.
* The vendors were arranged kind of funny. Most if seemed like they were trying to go around the walls with the shape of building but there was one booth that was being blocked by another booth and there was a hole in one area and I just think they could have arranged it to where no booths were blocked.
* I did like that they used the outside area as a stage for the cosplay contest and the ani-idol concert, that was a good idea indeed. so yay!
* They did not seem to be doing a very good job at head counts or handing out wristbands. They were only handing out wristbands if you came in through the front door of the civic center. What about if you came in from the library and entered the civic center through the back door? Then you had no reason to ever come in through the front door and you were basically uncounted for at the con.
*The library was open to regular civilians at the same time, this was not a bad thing but I think they could have done a little better at arranging things.
They could have had more open tables at the library for people to play board games or card games.
The Pachinko Machines were in a corner that had absolutely no space and being blocked by bookshelves.
The Artist booths were arranged in a strange manner. It woudl have been better to move a couple of bookshelves for the day to arrange things better.
The art contest winners could have been moved to a better location instead of being in the middle of a space that could have been used more productively.
Well all in all it wasn't that bad. It was quite fun, it was a beautiful day and many great cosplayers were there. I hope next year they do a little better organizing, It's always tough the first time something is at a new location so I think next year will be better!

WataMote!
WataMote - No Matter How I Look at It, It’s You Guys' Fault I’m Not Popular!
WataMote is absolutely hilarious, this anime goes through the life of an unpopular girl who assumes that once she enters high school she will be popular, weeks into school she is still pretty unpopular. Every episode is full of hilarity! The main characters name is Tomoko, long black hair, with bags under her eyes, can often be seen as desperate to be popular. Going through lengths such as changing her outfit only to look awfully scary, taking lonely purikura pictures, training herself how to be a cabaret girl, and even wanting to get molested on the train!
In this anime you can't help but to root for young Tomoko as she struggles with something many teens always deal with, fitting in at school.
Warning! Tomoko gets a little pervy at times and she enjoys ecchi games so viewer discretion is advised.

Little Busters!
If you are looking for a feel good friendship anime, i recently got into Little Busters.
So far I have gotten into about 5 episodes and so far so good. It starts out with a group of friends who have been friends since childhood, one of them will be graduating in a year so to keep his legacy at the school he decides to start a baseball team naming it after what their group was known as when they were kids, the :Little Busters.
The original group goes around the school looking for new members and the friendship between them and their new friends blossoms even more.
If anyone has seen Little Busters and wants to give us feedback or warnings comment please!
Here is the promotional video.
